Shedding Light on Long Island: a grantmaker learning tour

Arrival/Departure: The tour will begin at Winthrop University Hospital Welcoming Center, which is located 0.5 miles from the Mineola Long Island Railroad Station. Mineola is serviced by multiple LIRR lines running regularly from both Jamaica, New York (15 minutes by LIRR) where there are connections to JFK Airprort and Penn Station in New York City (40 minutes by LIRR). Participants need to plan their own arrival to and departure from Mineola, NY via a flight to JFK, a regional train to Penn Station, or other local transit.

Lodging/Ground Transport: Group bus transport from the Mineola start location, throughout the tour, and returning to Mineola is included in registration. Lodging on the evening of March 30 at Hyatt Place Long Island/East End is also included.

If you would like to arrive a day early, on the evening of March 29, we recommend staying at Hyatt Place Garden City or La Quinta Garden City. This expense would not be covered.

• hear from dynamic organizations and individuals about successes and challenges of local community engagement strategies,
• understand the strength of Long Island’s rich diversity and the history of the region’s segregation, and
• examine the region’s importance to statewide policies that affect ALL New Yorkers.
